Wednesday, May 12, 2021 Significant Wage, Pension Gains for B & J Contracting Employees with New Contract Locals Local 52 Ratifications Sectors Construction New Lowell, ON—Employees of B & J Contracting, based in New Lowell, ratified a new collective agreement providing them with significant increases to wages and pension contributions. The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 52. The union has represented B & J Contracting employees since 2015. The three-year contract provides wage increases of over 13 percent over the term. In addition, employees will see employer contributions to their pension plans increase by more than a third. “Despite some initial challenges early in the negotiations, the union bargaining committee worked hard to find the compromises necessary to get the big wage and pension improvements members wanted to see,” says Robert Brink, CLAC representative. “B & J has a great crew of workers. The company recognized the need to provide improved compensation to continue to grow in a competitive market.” B & J Contracting works primarily in Simcoe County on sewer and watermain installation and site preparation for new subdivisions, as well as infrastructure remediation or replacement and other related earthwork. The company employs approximately 30 Local 52 members who work as equipment operators, labourers, pipelayers, and truck drivers.
