Significant Wage Increases for ORM Employees

Mississauga, ON—Local 6 members employed by Ontario Redimix (ORM) at plants in Pickering, Milton, Toronto Portlands, and Etobicoke voted 70 percent in favour of a five-year collective agreement providing significant wage increases.

The new contract provides members with a five percent increase in year one and a total of approximately seventeen percent over the term. In addition, employer contributions to members’ pension savings were increased and the safety allowance was increased. Coverage for long term and short term disability, dental care, prescriptions, and life insurance were also increased. Overtime will now be paid after nine hours, which was a key item sought by the union bargaining committee and represents a large gain for members who often work long shifts.

Over 90 members are currently employed across the various locations. The members also voted to switch from direct representation with CLAC and become part of Local 6.
