Tuesday, June 19, 2018 Shamrock Mechanical Solutions Employees Secure First Contract Local 53 Ratifications Construction London, ON—Employees of Shamrock Mechanical Solutions Inc., located in Lucan, have voted to accept the terms of a first collective agreement that will provide wage increases, pension, and health care benefits. The sheet metal journeymen and apprentices applied to join Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53 earlier this spring. The tentative settlement negotiated on their behalf was approved with unanimous support. The three-year contract provides for a $5 hourly wage increase for journeymen over three years. Importantly, for the first time employees will participate in both a pension plan and in a health and welfare benefit plan. “These employees knew the value of their work and decided to gain what a union contract could provide them,” says Roger Grootenboer, CLAC Local 53 representative. “This settlement gives them financial security both now and in the future. They know that the benefits of this contract brings support for their families.” CLAC Local 53 was certified by the Ontario Labour Relations Board on February 26, 2018 to represent the sheet metal employees at Shamrock Mechanical Solutions Inc.
