Shalom Manor Nurses Ratify New Collective Agreement

GRIMSBY, ON—Registered nurses employed by Shalom Manor Long Term Care Home in Grimsby, Ontario, ratified a two-year collective agreement providing them with improvements to wages, benefits, and working conditions.

The RNs are represented by Niagara Healthcare and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 302.

The new contract provides them with wage improvements over the life of the agreement, with grid adjustments through 2026. It also includes enhanced premiums, including a weekend premium increase to $1.35 per hour. The agreement provides a number of benefits improvements, including to vision care and improved chiropractic coverage. Sick leave provisions were revised to allow for greater accumulation of sick time and partial payout of unused sick days. In addition, vacation flexibility was clarified, with eligible employees able to divide up to two weeks into individual days. The contract also establishes a joint working committee of union and management representatives to work on the expansion of bargaining rights to the new site in Hamilton.

“We’re proud to have reached a fair and respectful agreement that recognizes the vital contributions of our members at Shalom Manor,” says Isobel Farrell, CLAC representative. “These RNs demonstrate exceptional dedication and professionalism, and this agreement reflects improvements that support their well-being and retention in the vital long term care sector.”
