Rutherford Contracting Employees Secure Strong Gains with New Three-Year Contract

AURORA, ON—Local 52 members employed by Rutherford Contracting Ltd. voted unanimously in favour of a three-year collective agreement that delivers substantial improvements to their wages, benefits, and premiums.

Local 52 has represented the company’s employees since 2016.

The new contract provides members with 12.8 percent total package increases over the term, along with a 1 percent retirement contribution increase in year 3. Members also gained enhanced benefits, including the addition of orthodontic coverage and improved vision-care coverage.

Other highlights include increased premiums for lead hands and forepersons and an additional two percent for carpenters who achieve their Red Seal designation. The agreement also features an increased per-kilometre travel rate and higher contributions to the training fund, supporting both mobility and professional development.

“The members at Rutherford Contracting are highly capable, multiskilled, and motivated individuals,” says Randy Parris, representative. “The union bargaining committee’s mandate was to secure a settlement that truly reflected the culture and values of the bargaining unit. This agreement represents a significant step forward for members, as it addresses their immediate priorities while also providing long term stability and security.”

Rutherford Contracting is a general contractor based in Aurora, Ontario, with projects throughout the greater Toronto and surrounding areas. The company employs carpenters, operators, and labourers who work on a wide range of construction projects across the region.
