Project Profile: G3 Terminal

Local 68 members working for Peter Kiewit Sons ULC continue to make progress on the G3 Grain Terminal in North Vancouver, nearing 65 percent completion of the project.

The G3 Terminal is a state-of-the-art export terminal designed to receive, store, and ship Canadian-grown grain throughout the world. The terminal is the first constructed at the Port of Vancouver since the 1960s. It includes a rail car receiving facility that can accommodate trains up to 2,680 meters in length—or three 134-car trains, a grain storage facility capable of holding 180,000 metric tonnes with 48 concrete silos approximately 42.6 meters tall, and a grain cleaning facility 81-metres-tall.

The existing wharf was demolished and a new wharf built, which will support up to three ship-loading cranes. In addition to the terminal, Kiewit workers are building a maintenance shop, a control centre, access roads, an underpass, an electrical substation, and a long-shore building for stevedoring personnel.

Members working for Hall Constructors and Gisborne have also made significant contributions on the project since its start in March 2017.
