Pro Trades Mechanical Employees Ratify First Contract

Windsor, ON—Employees of Pro Trades Mechanical Inc., based in Windsor and Ridgetown, ratified their first collective agreement providing them with wage increases and other improvements.

The 36 plumbers, electricians, skilled labourers, and sheetmetal and HVAC workers joined Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53, in August of this year. The employees previously did not have union representation.

With their first contract, the journeyperson maximum rate rises to $38 per hour while the top rate for skilled labourers rises to $29.13 per hour. In addition, the employer will contribute 5 percent to the employees’ pension plan, rising to 5.5 percent in 2023 and 6 percent in 2024. Employees will be provided with employer-paid benefits for life insurance, AD&D, drug, paramedical, vision, and dental coverage. A boot allowance of $275 per year and uniform allowance of $225 per year were negotiated, along with hourly premiums for added skills, such as master electrician. The contract also includes an additional level of vacation pay for employees with more than 10 years of service, paid travel time, and an increase to on-call pay.

“We are happy to be representing our new members at Pro Trades Mechanical,” says Mary Ellen Alward, CLAC representative. “We look forward to supporting them in their work. We are pleased with the improvements that we have negotiated for them in this first agreement, and we look to continue to improve their contract further in years to come.”

Pro Trades Mechanical provides electrical, plumbing, and sheetmetal work throughout the Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent regions.
