Monday, April 14, 2025 Preparing for Your C of Q Exam CLAC has resources to help apprentices attain their ultimate goal—becoming a journeyperson Newsletters Construction We always talk about apprenticeship as a journey, and one of the biggest milestones of that journey is preparing for the exam! We know that the information out there can be confusing at times and figuring out where to start is challenging. Our Central Apprenticeship team is here to help! Did you know that there is a difference between the curriculum you learn during your blocks of school vs. the content that’s covered in the Red Seal exam to become a journeyperson? School curriculum is built around province-specific industry standards, including code books and trends, such as residential vs. industrial. What you learn in school is meant to help you understand the full scope of the trade, even if you don’t touch on those skills when you’re back working on site. So why are we highlighting this? We’ve heard from a lot of members after multiple attempts at the exam that they were surprised by what questions were being asked. That’s because the exam is based on Red Seal content. Red Seal means that it’s national industry standards and codes. We want to help you prepare for the exam as early as possible, which means sharing resources that are more relevant to you! How can CLAC help? Below is a list of resources broken out into provincial and national content. Our team would recommend that you work with both in order to prepare for the exam. Our goal for 2025-2026 is develop resources that can support an apprentice to succeed in the ultimate goal—becoming a Journeyperson!
