Outstanding Wage Gains for Montana Electrical Contractors’ Electricians with New Contract

Etobicoke, ON—Local 52 members employed as electricians by Montana Electrical Contractors Ltd. unanimously ratified a three-year collective agreement providing them with outstanding wage gains and other improvements.

The contract, which took effect April 1, 2024—four months ahead of its expiration—provides members with wage increases of up to $10.50 per hour (24 percent) and total package increases of up to $16.37 per hour (31 percent). In addition, employer contributions to members’ pension plan increased by up to four percent, significant improvements were made to the full suite of benefits, and PPE, tools, and apparel allowances increased by $300. Other improvements include an increase in the out-of-town meal allowance from $50 to $65, an increase in the per kilometre mileage rate to 64 cents, the introduction of paid parking provisions, and the lowering of the vacation pay threshold by two years.

"Montana Electrical Contractors’ electricians are dedicated to their families, their craft, and their employer,” says Randy Parris, representative. “They are involved in a variety of Metrolinx projects and produce quality work. The union bargaining committee engaged in challenging but respectful negotiations with management and was able to reach an agreement with significant increases that was unanimously ratified by the membership.”
