Ontario Redimix Workers See Wage Gains in New Contract

Etobicoke, ON—A new five-year collective agreement has been ratified by members of CLAC employed by Ontario Redimix (ORM), a division of CRH Canada Group Inc.

The 110 employees include drivers, loader operators, and maintenance staff who work out of ORM’s Etobicoke, Toronto, Pickering, and Milton locations. The agreement was ratified by an 86 percent majority.

Terms of the new contract include wage increases of 85 cents per hour in the first two years of the agreement, and 80 cents per hour in the next three years. Employees will also see a time-and-a-half premium for working Saturdays. The boot allowance has been increased by $50, and improvements have been made to vacation entitlements. The new contract also includes better language regarding transfers, postings, and training.

“We stood firm, yet maintained a reasoned and amicable approach with the employer which allowed for a fair settlement, placing us within the top earners in the GTA ready mix industry,” said Nic Euler of the union bargaining committee.

ORM provides ready mix, mixing, and concrete to projects across the GTA. CLAC members have worked on many major projects, including the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit Project and numerous condo developments.
