Friday, December 2, 2016 Ontario Construction Local Board Updates Locals Local 6 Local 52 Local 53 Newsletters Sectors Construction Local 6 The board met on September 14, 2016, and officially welcomed the newly elected members to the board. Various board members were appointed to open positions. The board reappointed Sal Garzia as president, and appointed Brent Smith as vice-president, Paul Messina as treasurer, and John Letnik as secretary. Christian Blancher, Mark O’Grady, Roger Beldman, Joel Kamphof, and Alex Kuiper remain members at large. The board has asked CLAC to look into whether it’s feasible to develop a program for CLAC retirees to access post-retirement benefits. At the time of printing, the board was scheduled to meet at the end of November 2016. Local 52 The board had its regularly scheduled meetings on September 15 and November 17, 2016. It also hosted its annual general meeting on November 17. Local staff were happy to report to the additions of Ridgeline Electric, MTM-2, Brown Daniels and Associates, CDI, and SSM Industrial. This has been a terrific year for the local in terms of its growth with many new workplaces joining. Local staff provided their regular update regarding settlements, organizing, and ongoing negotiations. The board was also updated on the grand opening of the new Cambridge Member Centre and training facility and the building progress for the new Mississauga Member Centre, which will open in early 2017. The board will next meet in March. Local 53 The board met on September 29 in London. Harold Chordash of Graceview Enterprises was elected as board president for 2016-2017. The board was pleased to note the continued growth in membership and workplaces served by the local. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for January 12, 2017. Local 53 will also host our winter fundraising golf tournament in support of the Downtown Mission food bank in Windsor. All are welcome to participate in the event on February 25 in Tecumseh.
