O’Connor Electric Employees Secure Wage, Benefits Improvements with New Contract

KITCHENER, ON—Employees of O’Connor Electric, an electrical contractor based in Kitchener, Ontario, ratified a three-year collective agreement providing them with wage increases, improved benefits, and enhanced allowances.

The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 6. The union has represented the company’s employees since 1987.

The more than 325-member group of journeyperson electricians and electrician apprentices voted strongly in favour of the new contract and secured total compensation increases of 10.5 percent over the term. The agreement also includes enhanced retirement security, with employer contributions to the CLAC Pension Plan increasing to 16 percent of gross earnings; improvements to travel allowances; and significant enhancements to the health and welfare plan, including life and dependent life insurance, vision care, dental care, and paramedical services.

“This result reflects strong member engagement throughout the bargaining process,” says Ian DeWaard, CLAC Ontario director and lead negotiator for the union. “It strikes the right balance between maintaining industry competitiveness and ensuring the company can continue to attract and retain top talent, and members clearly endorsed that outcome.”

O’Connor Electric provides electrical contracting services, with employees working on a range of industrial, commercial, and construction projects across Ontario.
