The employees are represented by Healthcare and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 304. The union has represented them since July 2009. The three-year contract provides all employees with a two percent wage increase per year over the term. Personal support workers also received a special adjustment of one percent. Other improvements include a one percent increase to the pension plan, bringing employer and employee contributions to three percent, and a vision benefits increase of $50, bringing the new amount to $250 every two years. “The award does acknowledge the work done by our members at Chartwell Oakville Retirement Residences to a degree,” says Michael Glockner, CLAC representative. “However, it significantly fails to recognize the hard work done by front-line staff during the recent pandemic and beyond.” The union is looking forward to negotiations at the expiry of this agreement to once again advocate for the needs of its members.
