New Online Course, New Designation

Code Course
Ten Local 68 members at Chambers Electrical Corp. are currently participating in an online delivery of the Field Safety Representative Code course. This is the third time that CLAC Training in BC has facilitated this program for our members working at Chambers, but the first time where we are delivering it exclusively in an online format. We have partnered with an excellent instructor based out of Thompson Rivers University who will prepare participants for the certificate of qualification examination. If you are interested in this course, contact bctraining@clac.ca.

NCSO
The National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO™) is a new national safety designation designed to replace a number of similar provincial designations. It was approved by the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations after several years of discussion and consultation with stakeholders across the country. The NCSO program will provide practical training in various construction safety management skills and principles.

An NCSO designation is an entry-level field position for individuals in the construction industry who have three or more years of safety-related work experience. The objective of the program is to provide verification of a nationally recognized level of competency in relation to construction safety. The NCSO offers safety professionals the ability to work interprovincially and have their credentials recognized regardless of which province they work in.

In BC, NCSO will replace the Construction Safety Specialist (CSS), currently offered by the BCCSA. To understand how the NCSO compares to other safety designations, visit cocabc.ca and review “Hiring a Health and Safety Practitioner,” a document developed by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers.
