New Contract for Velocity Mechanical Employees

Cambridge, ON—Contract renewal has been secured for the 44 employees of Kitchener-based Velocity Mechanical Inc., with 85 percent of employees voting in favour of the settlement negotiated by their union, Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53. New terms take effect on April 1, 2020.

The three-year contract provides for total value increases between $4.70 and $5.24 per hour, depending on classification. Along with solid annual hourly pay increases, the new agreement also provides for improved employer contributions to employees’ pension plan, enhanced tool and boot allowance, clarified process to determine travel pay, improved living-out allowances, and increased premiums for certifications/licenses and shift work.

“Velocity Mechanical is a growing and ambitious company,” says Roger Grootenboer, CLAC representative. “This settlement provides our members with fair and strong compensation improvements for contributing to the success of this dynamically growing workplace.”
