Thursday, January 4, 2024 New Contract For OCL Construction Employees Secures Wage Increases Locals Local 63 Ratifications Sectors Construction Fort McMurray, AB—Local 63 members employed by OCL Construction Services LP recently voted 98 percent in favour of a new 32-month collective agreement. The new contract provides members with a 5.45 percent increase to the base wage rate in January 2024. This brings the base wage of compulsory trades to $50 per hour. In addition, annual wage reviews will be held each December over the term. The first review will take place in December 2024, with an implementation date of January 5, 2025. This brings the total wage increases since 2022 to about 17 percent. The contract also includes a welding premium of $3.50 per hour for the entire day, when any alloy welding is performed on that day, with appropriate qualifications. Numerous language updates were made to help protect the original intent of the articles. Progressive conversations were also had around additional compensation items that will be trialed on a site-by-site basis with the hope of adding them into the collective agreement during an upcoming wage review.
