New Contract Brings Gains for CLAC Members at PCL Builders
Calgary—Local 63 members employed by PCL Builders Inc. across Alberta ratified a new collective agreement that features several improvements, including wage increases.
The two-year contract was approved on December 23 after more than 20 membership meetings across the province. A total of 261 members voted 73 percent in favour of the new agreement.
Highlights include
• Increases to the boot allowance, night shift differential, and retirement plan, along with a number of positive language changes
• Added two tiers of increased vacation-pay incentives for long term employees
• 3.5-percent increase to base wages in Calgary effective January 1, 2023; 2 percent in the Edmonton region
• Wage review on June 30, 2023
• Guaranteed 1-percent increase with a wage review January 1, 2024
• The first year of this agreement will see total compensation increases of between 4.5 percent and 6.5 percent, depending on an employee’s years of service.
"This round of bargaining was important,” says Ben Timmermans, CLAC representative. “The employer is facing a tight labour market, and the members are feeling the affects of rising costs due to inflation. The bargaining committee did a fantastic job expressing their concerns to their employer, resulting in a good settlement for the membership.”
Local 63 represents more than 300 members employed by PCL Builders in Alberta, where they are engaged in commercial and institutional construction.
