Tuesday, March 24, 2026 NAAA Employees Leave LIUNA, Unanimously Ratify First Agreement with CLAC Local 63 Ratifications FORT MCMURRAY, AB—Local 63 members employed by the Northern Alberta Athletic Association (NAAA) unanimously ratified their first collective agreement, securing strong wage, benefits, and workplace improvements. These new members were previously represented by LIUNA but chose to leave that union due to concerns about the quality of representation they were receiving. The group of eight employees, who perform arena maintenance, ratified a 53-month agreement running from February 1, 2026, to July 30, 2030. The agreement includes a new wage progression schedule recognizing experience and loyalty, employer pension contributions of eight percent, and comprehensive employer-paid health and welfare benefits. Members will also receive enhanced vacation entitlements of up to five weeks, twelve paid sick days per year, and paid bereavement and parental leave. Additional improvements include the introduction of a team lead position, a regularized pay schedule, and a commitment to annual wage reviews to ensure wages remain competitive. “We’re pleased to welcome this group and support them in achieving a strong first agreement,” says Jay Caithcart, representative. “These members were looking for better representation, and this agreement delivers meaningful improvements and clear, fair practices that reflect the value they bring to their work.” You might be interested in Why We Work Safely 5 Jun 2026 Standing Your Ground, and Staying Steady on the Job 4 Jun 2026 CLAC Partners with Alberta Government to Advance Skilled Trades Training and Accelerate Certification 4 Jun 2026 Strathcona Mechanical Workers Ratify New Agreement Providing Wage, Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026
