Muddy York Electric Workers Secure Major Wage Increases in New Three-Year Agreement

SCARBOROUGH, ON—Electricians employed by Muddy York Electric Inc. have unanimously ratified a renewed three-year collective agreement providing significant wage increases, improved health benefits, higher responsibility premiums and travel allowances, and five paid leave days.

The 20 electricians are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 52, which has represented the workers since 2023.

Under the new collective agreement, the journeyperson electrician wage rate will increase by $3 per hour immediately, followed by increases of $2.25 per hour in the second year and $2.36 per hour in the third year.

Employees will also receive improvements to their health benefits, including enhanced vision, dental, and paramedical coverage. Responsibility premiums for forepersons and lead hands will increase, along with mileage reimbursement and out-of-town allowances.

The agreement also introduces up to five paid days for employees facing illness, emergencies, or the birth or adoption of a child.

“Our bargaining committee worked hard on this agreement, knowing that their colleagues needed a significant increase to their wages,” says Robert Brink, CLAC representative. “We achieved that. Working with management, we found terms that will set the team up well for the next three years.”

Muddy York Electric Inc. is an electrical contractor whose employees perform work on schools, institutional buildings, and commercial construction projects across southern Ontario.
