Mill Creek's Care Team

Walking through the halls of Mill Creek Care Centre, you can’t help but get a sense that the staff are a real team working together to care for the home’s 160 residents.

Mill Creek is a charitable, nonprofit long term care facility in Barrie, Ontario. In March 2016, the facility’s 140 personal support workers, registered practical nurses, and program therapists voted to displace their former union and join Health Care and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 304. These new members were looking for a union that understands the concerns of those who work in long term care. With nearly 50 years representing workers in the sector, CLAC has the experience they were looking for.

Since joining Local 304, the new members have had a busy year electing stewards and a bargaining committee and getting down to work to negotiate a new collective agreement. Staff at Mill Creek face the same struggles as many other long term care facilities, such as the challenges of higher needs residents and family demands.

Despite the challenges, the team of dedicated members at Mill Creek are committed to providing quality care for their residents. The same high level of care that they would expect for themselves and their families.
