Meeting with the Chief Prevention Officer

CLAC recently met with George Gritziotis, Ontario’s chief prevention officer (CPO), at the union’s Cambridge Member Centre and training facility, where we advised him about CLAC’s newest training initiatives. After a tour of the facility, Gritziotis and representatives of CLAC and PCA—the association representing many CLAC-signatory contractors—discussed the following matters of mutual interest:

The CPO’s Occupational Health and Safety Career Training Strategy white paper – CLAC supports career-long learning in health and safety and other areas.
The Ministry of Labour’s development and release of mandatory training in the industry
The Construction Health and Safety Action Plan – Colin deRaaf, CLAC Training Ontario director, provided input into the plan.
The Ministry of Labour’s working at heights deadline extension from April 1 to the fall – CLAC reported that we and our members were prepared for the spring deadline and didn’t need the extension. We will continue to offer WAH courses to train any stragglers, new employees, and the public.

CLAC enjoys a good relationship with the CPO and maintains it by meeting several times per year to discuss matters that impact you and your fellow members.
