The 115 employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53. The union has represented them since March 2017. The new contract provides employees with wage increases of 16 percent over the term, with retirement savings also increasing as a percentage of wages. Other improvements include the addition of employee and family assistance program coverage and counselling programs. Premiums were also added for employees who work as stone slingers and conveyor truck drivers. “This was a difficult round of bargaining,” says Alex Kuiper, CLAC representative. “The current inflationary realities are putting economic pressures on everyone. Despite that, the union bargaining committee stood firm, and we were able to negotiate a fair settlement with the management team. We’re pleased that the membership endorsed the agreement overwhelmingly, with 89 percent voting in favour of ratification.” You might be interested in Why We Work Safely 5 Jun 2026 Standing Your Ground, and Staying Steady on the Job 4 Jun 2026 CLAC Partners with Alberta Government to Advance Skilled Trades Training and Accelerate Certification 4 Jun 2026 Strathcona Mechanical Workers Ratify New Agreement Providing Wage, Scheduling Improvements 3 Jun 2026
