Tuesday, March 5, 2024 Matheson Constructors Employees Unanimously Ratify New Contract Locals Local 52 Ratifications Sectors Construction Aurora, ON—Local 52 members employed by Matheson Constructors Limited voted unanimously in favour of ratifying a three-year collective agreement providing them with significant wage increases and other improvements. Wages increase between 13 and 17 percent over the term of the contract, with the majority of the increase coming immediately at ratification. The updated wage scale includes new categories for better advancement of members as they gain experience and expertise. In addition, members’ vacation pay, which combines vacation, holiday, and personal leave pay, increases from 10 percent to 10.8 percent—the equivalent of two paid days per year. The union also negotiated a significant increase to the hourly benefits amount, which allows for enhanced benefits coverage, plus an improved shift premium, an improved boot and work wear allowance, and more. “The skilled and dedicated members employed by Matheson are an important part of the success of this growing company,” says Robert Brink, representative. “Management recognize that and worked with the union’s bargaining committee on a great settlement, reestablishing Matheson as an industry leader on wages.” The 20 labourers, carpenters, and operators employed by Matheson have been represented by Local 52 since 2017.
