Maple City Retirement Workers Secure Strong Three-Year Agreement

CHATHAM, ON—Employees of Maple City Retirement Inc., represented by Southwestern Ontario Healthcare and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 303, voted 94 percent in favour of ratifying a three-year collective agreement providing them with annual wage increases and other improvements.

The new contract includes general wage increases of 3.5 percent each year, along with a special wage adjustment for resident service attendants. Employees will also see enhanced dental coverage moving from 75/25 to 80/20.

Other monetary improvements include an increase to the shoe and uniform allowance (from $0.10 per hour to $0.15 per hour), as well as premium increases: weekend premium to $0.55 per hour, charge premium to $1.85 per hour, and the in-lieu-of-benefits premium to $0.75 per hour. The contract also introduces new provisions, such as language supporting shift give-aways.

The agreement covers 25 employees at the Chatham retirement home, including resident service attendants, activity aides, housekeepers, dining services attendants, maintenance workers, and cooks.

“This new contract provides meaningful improvements that recognize the dedication and hard work of our members,” says Ryan Griffioen, CLAC representative. “It’s a good settlement that brings wage growth, better benefits, and new language that will support a healthier work-life balance.”
