Saturday, November 30, 2019 Major Safety Awards for Members at Kearl Lake Locals Local 63 Newsletters Sectors Construction Congratulations to Local 63 members employed by AECOM Maintenance Contractors Ltd., which recently received three awards from the National Safety Council for safe work that members performed at IOL Kearl Lake in 2018. The members include electricians, instrument technicians, pipefitters, operators, welders, labourers, scaffolders, as well as other site-specific technical skilled positions such as GET technicians, lubrication technicians, and sampler technician. They all combined to make these awards possible through their commitment to safety. The three awards were for the work done during the 2018 outages and turnarounds. AECOM was able to self-man these shutdowns and outages with CLAC members. 1. Occupational Excellence Achievement Award The National Safety Council recognized AECOM for injury and illness records better than 50 percent of the Bureau of Labor Statistics for their NAICS code. Criteria include Lost work day case incident rate better than or equal to 50 percent of the BLS rating for your NAICS code in the past calendar year Zero fatalities during the previous calendar year 2. Industry Leader Award This is an international recognition for outstanding safety achievement. It recognizes AECOM for injury and illness records in the top five percent of companies for its category in 2018. 3. Perfect Record Award This award recognizes AECOM for at least 12 consecutive months without incurring an occupational injury or illness that resulted in days away from work or death—543,737 employee hours worked! These three awards showcase Local 63 members’ dedication to working safely and efficiently with an ability to handle these major shutdowns.
