Tuesday, January 9, 2024 Mainland Energy Works Employees Unanimously Ratify Three-Year Contract Locals Local 68 Ratifications Sectors Construction Surrey, BC—Local 68 members employed by Mainland Energy Works Inc., based in Surrey, unanimously ratified a three-year collective agreement providing them with wage and other gains. The local has represented them since January 2021. The new contract provides wage increases of eight percent in year one, four percent in year two, and three percent in year three. In addition, all current employees hired prior to the end of 2023 will receive a two percent increase to their vacation pay after three years of continuous employment. New employees hired since the start of 2024 will receive the two percent vacation pay increase after five years of employment. Other improvements include revisions to the living-out allowance to $200 per day all inclusive, a drop in the waiting period for eligibility for short term disability from 14 day to 7, and an increase to the lead-hand premium from $1 per hour to $2. The 15 members are employed as equipment operators, fusers, labourers, flaggers, welders, truck drivers, and gas fitters. They provide services for FortisBC gas work in BC’s Lower Mainland.
