Friday, December 17, 2021 Long-Awaited Arbitration Award for Employees at Leacock Care Centre and Royal Rose Place Ratifications Mississauga, ON—Employees represented by Health Care Workers Union, CLAC Locals 304 and 302, at Leacock Care Centre in Orillia and Royal Rose Place in Welland have received their long-awaited arbitration award. The collective agreement expired on March 31, 2020, and the award was released on December 1, 2021. The new collective agreement expires on March 31, 2023. It includes 1.5 percent wage increases each year of the agreement, as well as an enhanced sick-leave program, a $0.25 per hour night-shift premium, increased vision care to $300, increases to the uniform allowance, and improvements to chiropractic coverage. “These employees deserved every increase awarded in this decision,” says Michael Glockner, CLAC representative. “Unfortunately, the much-needed improvements to the hourly wages were missed. Attracting and retaining employees in long term care is essential.” “We will build on this agreement in the future and look forward to that in the next round of negotiations,” says Lori Love, CLAC steward and bargaining committee member. CLAC represents 115 members at Leacock Care Centre and 115 members at Royal Rose Place.
