Local 6

Local 6 staff are busy negotiating renewal collective agreements for members employed by Airon Group of Companies, and Randen Electrical Systems. The local is pleased to have recently renewed collective agreements with

All-Pro Installations Ltd., Besseling Mechanical Inc., G.S. Sheet Metal, Group 92 Mechanical Inc. , Halton Sheet Metal Ltd., Independent Contractors Association, Low’s Glass & Mirror Co. Ltd., O’Connor Electric, Succession Development Corporation, Trans Test Ltd., and UrbanLink Civil Ltd.

The Local held its annual general meeting and golf tournament at Century Pines Golf & Country Club on June 10. Members enjoyed great weather, lunch, and prizes. The board recognized the retirement of Sal Garzia, a long-standing member and former Local 6 Board president. The board presented Sal with a gift and the membership thanked him for his contributions and many years of service to the local. The board is excited to welcome two new members, Nic Euler (Ontario Redi-Mix) and Lance Silva (O’Connor Electric). Paul Messina was also reappointed to serve another term.

Local 52

The Local 52 annual general meeting (AGM) occurred on May 11, 2023, in person at the Mississauga Member Centre. Attendees heard a report on the minutes from the 2022 AGM, the annual financial statements, and activity of the local for the past year. John Schenk and Jeffrey DaCruz were each acclaimed to three-year terms as members of the board. The board also met on May 11, 2023, and was pleased to appoint Jordan Gath to fill a vacancy created by a member who moved on to another opportunity.

Local staff reported that they continue negotiations for approximately eight bargaining units represented out of the Mississauga, Cambridge and Sudbury Member Centres and provided the Board with details. Local staff also reported on 25 settlements that have been achieved for members that have been ratified. The board was also updated on each of the special cases and organizing initiatives that Local staff are involved in. The board reviewed the financials of the local along with the training opportunities that are available to local members.

Local 53

Local 53 meets quarterly, having previously convened on January 20 and April 29. The third quarter meeting is scheduled for October 20.

Local 53 representatives based at the Chatham and Cambridge Member Centres continue to guide a busy year of collective agreement renewals and first collective agreements for newly organized groups. Renewed collective agreements have been reached during 2023 with

C.J. Bondy Plumbing, Graceview Enterprises Inc., Greater Essex Electrical Inc., Henry Heyink Construction Ltd., McCann Redi-Mix Inc., Postma Concrete Forming, VanRooyen Earthmoving Ltd., and Velocity Mechanical Inc. First settlements with new workplaces were reached at Neighbourhood Electric, Pro-Trades Mechanical Inc., and Trade Tech Mechanical Services Inc. Negotiations are scheduled at five other workplaces before the end of the calendar year. Local 53 membership continues at an all-time high, averaging nearly 1,600 members employed at 46 workplaces across southwestern Ontario.
