Local 6

Local 6 staff have been busy negotiating renewal collective agreements, and settlements have been achieved for members employed by Boonstra’s One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning, Complete Comfort Niagara Inc., CRH - Dufferin Concrete (Hamilton), Jim’s Concrete, Lehigh Hanson Materials, Niacon Limited, Ontario Redi Mix (Hamilton), and Superior Concrete Forming Ltd.

The local is pleased to welcome new members working at Umbrella Electric, a Hamilton-based electrical contractor.

The local held its annual general meeting at the Century Pines Golf & Country Club on June 11. Members enjoyed a round of golf, lunch, and prizes. Brent Smith was reappointed to serve another term on the local board. The board is scheduled to meet again in September.

Local 52

The Local 52 board last met on June 16, 2022. The board met both in person and virtually for its meeting. We are pleased that Jane Penchion and Jacqueline Myers recently joined the board.

Local staff continue negotiations for approximately 18 companies represented out of the Mississauga, Cambridge, and Sudbury Member Centres. They are Newcon Electric Inc., Stratz Electric, Foers Pressure Inc., Industrial Floor Systems Corp., Kile Contr. Inc., Koler Construction, Mapleridge Mechanical Contracting Inc., Penalta Group Ltd., Synapse Electric Limited, Wilkinson Construction Services Inc., Dominion Construction, Denis Gratton Construction Ltd., MCA Contracting Ltd., Caron Equipment Inc., MX Constructors, Pro Pipe Construction Inc., Northec-Fournier G.P., and Ayat Contracting Inc.

Local staff also reported on 14 collective agreement settlements that were ratified. They were for members employed by A&W High Voltage Contracting Ltd., Global Mechanical Ltd., Ledcor Construction Limited, North America Const. (1993) Ltd., Paynel Electrical Contractors Ltd., Percon Construction Inc., Pre-Eng Contracting Ltd., Rico Lighting & Electrical Services, Upper Canada Glass, Cynergy Mechanical Ltd., JAC Mechanical Inc., Beckett Electric Inc., Tri-Unite Systems Ltd., and Valley Mechanical Inc.

The board was also updated on each of the special cases that local staff are involved in and approved the local’s audited financial report. The board will set a date for its next meeting shortly.

Local 53

The Local 53 Board met virtually for the first quarter winter meeting for 2022 on January 19, but the second quarter spring meeting, held on April 27, was attended in person. The fall board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19.

The 2022 annual general meeting will be held this fall. Finalized meeting details will be circulated to members nearer the actual date. Please send any correspondence for the board to Roger Grootenboer, representative, rgrootenboer@clac.ca.

Representative staff continue to guide a busy year of collective agreement renewals and first collective agreements for newly organized groups. New settlements have been reached at these 15 workplaces: Anchor Hydro, D. Grant Construction Limited, Dean-Lane Contractors Inc., Empire Roofing Corporation, Fortress Concrete Forming Inc., Glenile Services, Gordon Ruth and Company Ltd., Hardie Industrial Services (new), KS Zyp Ltd., Liftsafe Engineering & Service Group, Poirier Electric Ltd., Rose City Electric, Vozza Contracting - 911904 Ontario Ltd., Wilhelm Concrete (new), and Young Electrical Services Ltd. Negotiations for contract renewals are scheduled for late 2022 at these seven workplaces: Collaborative Structures Limited, J.M.R. Electric Ltd., Johnson Electric Inc., Kent Erie Glass & Lock, McCarron Plumbing and Heating, Quinn Roofing Solutions Inc., and Taylor Electric Inc.

A warm welcome to the 30+ new members employed by Pro Trades Mechanical Inc. in Windsor who joined the local in August! The members perform electrical, plumbing, sheet metal, and HVAC installation work.

The membership of Local 53 continues a pattern of yearly growth, with over 1,600 members at work in 45 workplaces across southwestern Ontario at last report.
