Local 6 Local 52 Local 53 Ontario Construction

Local 6

Local 6 staff are busy negotiating renewal collective agreements with Advantage Electric, G.S. Sheet Metal, Group 92 Mechanical Inc., Halton Sheet Metal Ltd., Low’s Glass & Mirror Co. Ltd., O’Connor Electric, S&S Electrical Services Inc., and Urbanlink Civil Ltd.

The Local is also pleased to report the successful ratifications by members employed by Besseling Mechanical Inc., the Independent Contractors Association, Niagara Formwork Structures Inc., and SFB Plumbing and Heating.

In addition, Local 6 welcomes new members employed by GB Mechanical, based in Burlington, and Manorcore Group Inc., a general contractor located in the Niagara Region.

The Local 6 Board met on February 11 to review financial statements and receive updates on ongoing bargaining unit activities, including negotiations, ratifications, organizing efforts, and labour board cases. The next board meeting is scheduled for April 22.

Local 52

The Local 52 Board most recently met on January 19 at the Mississauga Member Centre. Local staff reported that negotiations are ongoing for six companies represented out of the Mississauga, Cambridge, Ottawa, and Sudbury Member Centres and provided the board with detailed updates on each. Staff also reported on 18 collective agreement settlements that have been achieved and ratified for Local 52 members, along with specific details for each agreement.

In addition, the board received updates on special cases and organizing initiatives currently underway, as well as a written report from Andrew Regnerus, Ontario construction coordinator, presented by Local 52 staff. The board also reviewed the local’s financial statements and discussed training opportunities available to members. Local 52 is pleased to report that it has accepted the transfer of bargaining rights from five CLAC direct companies.

The board will next meet in the spring of 2026.

Local 53

The Local 53 Board gathered in Tillsonburg for its annual Christmas dinner meeting, where members bid farewell to outgoing board member Roger Grootenboer. Roger served faithfully for many years, and the group expressed its sincere appreciation for his contributions and dedication. Alex Kuiper has been appointed to fill the vacant seat, and the board is now preparing for its first meeting of 2026, scheduled for April.

Negotiations are currently underway for the more than 100 members employed by Clarke Construction Inc., and the local is hopeful a renewed collective agreement will be finalized soon.
