Local 6 Local 52 Local 53 Ontario Construction

Local 6

Local 6 staff are busy negotiating renewal collective agreements with Niagara Formworks, O’Connor Electric, and SFB Plumbing. Staff are also preparing for a busy spring 2026 with renewal agreements for Besseling Mechanical, Group 92 Mechanical, Halton Sheet Metal, Independent Contractors Association, and Urbanlink Civil. The local is pleased to report successful ratifications at Direct Electric, Dufferin Hamilton, Randen Electric, and Superior Concrete.

The board celebrated another successful annual general meeting and golf tournament on June 7 at Century Pines Golf Club. Members enjoyed sunny weather, good food, and prizes, and received a state of the union address highlighting the successes of the local.

The board met on October 15 and received reports of financial statements and ongoing bargaining unit activities, including ratifications, negotiations, organizing, and labour board cases. The next meeting is scheduled for December 10.

Local 52

The Local 52 Board met most recently on September 29 at the Mississauga Member Centre. Local staff reported that they continue negotiations for approximately 10 bargaining units represented out of the Mississauga, Cambridge, and Sudbury Member Centres and provided specific details on each. Staff also reported that 11 collective agreement settlements for members of the local have been ratified. The board received updates on special cases and organizing initiatives and reviewed the financial statements and training opportunities available to local members. The next meeting is scheduled for early 2026.

Local 53

The Local 53 Board meets quarterly, with the first 2026 winter meeting to be scheduled soon. Representatives based at the Chatham, Cambridge, and Mississauga Member Centres continue to work through a busy mix of collective agreement renewals and first agreements. The local secured strong new settlements for members at more than 20 workplaces through 2025 and welcomed new members at Parr Mechanical Ltd., based in Stratford. Local 53 membership growth throughout Southwestern Ontario remains steady, with monthly totals at record levels well over 2,000 members at more than 55 workplaces.
