Sunday, September 7, 2025 Local Updates Local 6 Local 52 Local 53 Ontario Construction Local 6 After a very busy spring and summer, the local is pleased to have recently renewed collective agreements with Arcadian Projects Inc., Arthur Electric Inc., Boonstra Heating & Air Conditioning, Complete Comfort Niagara Inc., Direct Electric Corporation, G.S. Sheet Metal, Gedco Excavating Ltd., Glenn Richardson Plumbing & Heating Limited, Jim’s Concrete, Network Site Services Ltd., Niacon Limited, Ontario Redimix (Hamilton Plant) Div of CRH, PRL/Guite Electric Ltd., Superior Concrete Forming Ltd., Treviso Elec. Inc., Umbrella Electric, and Xterra Construction Inc. Local 6 staff are currently negotiating renewal collective agreements for members employed by Dufferin Concrete (Hamilton) Div of CRH, Randen Electrical Systems, and SFB Plumbing and Heating. The local held its annual general meeting and golf tournament at Century Pines Golf & Country Club on June 7. Secretarial and financial reports were reviewed, highlighting the continued growth and success of the local. Lance Silva, O’Connor Electric Nic Euler, Ontario Redimix (GTA) Division of CRH Alex Russo, Ontario Redimix (GTA) Division of CRH Local 52 The Local 52 Board hosted the local’s annual general meeting at the Mississauga Member Centre on June 19. At that meeting, we reviewed the minutes from the previous year, the 2024 financial report, and the activity of the local from 2024; updated attendees on training initiatives available to members; and acclaimed two members to the board. Keith Gaudaur and Oshaine Powell were each acclaimed to three-year terms. Following the meeting, the board had its regularly scheduled meeting. Local staff reported that they continue negotiations for approximately 13 companies represented out of the Mississauga, Cambridge, and Sudbury Member Centres and provided the board with specific details. Local staff also reported on 14 collective agreement settlements that have been achieved for the members of the local that have each been ratified. Local staff also walked through these in detail with the board. The board was also updated on each of the special cases and organizing initiatives that local staff are involved in. The board reviewed the financials of the local along with the training opportunities that are available to local members. The board also recognized the long service of John Schenk as a Local 52 Board member and expressed their appreciation to him as he is retiring from the board. A unique feature of board oversight and responsibility was to assemble to hear the appeal of a Local 53 member during July. CLAC Local 53 representatives based at the Chatham, Cambridge, and Mississauga Member Centres continue with a busy mix of collective agreement renewals and negotiations for first collective agreements. We are pleased to have secured strong new settlements for members at 10 workplaces by the end of summer. Renewal processes are scheduled with seven contractors before the end of 2025. We extend a warm welcome to the newest Local 53 members employed at four different workplaces: Masse Plumbing Services (Windsor) Inc. and Masse Mechanical Services Inc. both based in Windsor, Millcreek Plumbing & Mechanical Ltd. in St. Thomas, and Kitchener-Waterloo based TE Mechanical Inc. Local 53 membership growth in southwestern Ontario throughout 2025 continues at a steady pace, with the monthly totals at record levels at well over 2,000 members at 54 workplaces.
