The Local 52 Board met on December 3, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic these meetings were held virtually but the board and staff look forward to face-to-face meetings when that becomes possible again. At this meeting, we welcomed Jeff Pickles to the board.

Local 52 is pleased to welcome the employees of Highpoint Construction Limited. Local staff continue negotiations for DSK Electric Inc., Rock Electric Inc., Romag Contracting Ltd., and Santos Construction Solutions. Local staff also report on ratified settlements on behalf of B-Safe Electric Ltd., Dependable Mechanical Systems Inc., LTS Build Services Ltd., Onyx Electrical a division of Onyx-Fire Protections Services Inc., and STRABAG Inc. The board also heard about the Cote Gold Mine project, located between Sudbury and Timmins, which we anticipate will employ 400-500 CLAC members.

Local 53

The first quarter meeting of the Local 53 Board was held on January 21, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was held virtually. The next scheduled meeting of the board is April 29. It is hoped to be able to schedule an annual meeting later in the fall of 2021.

The board heard reports concerning ongoing legal matters, financial reports, negotiations, and settlements for members working at several companies in the local. Despite the pandemic, construction activity and business remains strong with solid employment of Local 53 members. Growth in reported membership figures continues. The board was also pleased to welcome to the local the newly joined members employed at Dielco Electric Ltd. based in London.

The board is seeking new members to serve on the local board. Local 53 members with an interest in serving on the board are encouraged to contact CLAC Representative Roger Grootenboer at rgrootenboer@clac.ca or 519-365-4788.
