Local 6

Local 6 staff are currently negotiating renewal collective agreements with Jerry's Auto Body (Beamsville) Inc. and Mechanical Drywall Systems Ltd. Staff are preparing for a busy spring with negotiations upcoming for Arcadian Projects Inc., Arthur Electric Inc., Boonstra's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning – Division of Airtime, Complete Comfort Niagara Inc., Dufferin Concrete (Hamilton) Div. of CRH, G.S. Sheet Metal, Jim’s Concrete, Gedco Excavating Ltd., Konecranes Canada Incorporated – KCI, Niacon Limited, Ontario Redimix (Hamilton Plant) Div. of CRH, Superior Concrete Forming Ltd., Umbrella Electric, and Xterra Construction Inc. The local is pleased to have recently ratified a renewal collective agreement with Losani Homes.

The Local 52 Board met on December 11 and received reports of financial statements and ongoing bargaining unit activities, including ratifications, negotiations, organizing, and labour board cases. The board is scheduled to meet again on February 19.

Local 52

The Local 52 Board met on October 9, 2024. Local staff reported that they continue negotiations for approximately seven companies represented out of the Mississauga, Cambridge, and Sudbury Member Centres and provided the board with specific details. Local staff also reported on nine collective agreement settlements that have been achieved for members, which have all been ratified.

The board was updated on each of the special cases and organizing initiatives that local staff are involved in. It reviewed the local’s financials along with training opportunities available to members.

The board and local staff received and reviewed the report submitted by Andrew Regnerus, Ontario construction coordinator, which included an update on next steps in terms of political engagement and strategy in northern Ontario. The board plans to meet again early in 2025 for its next scheduled meeting.

Local 53

The Local 53 Board meets quarterly, with winter meetings scheduled for January and April of this year. The 2024 annual general meeting was held in London on October 25, 2024. The annual financial statements as prepared by BDO Dunwoody were reviewed with the assembled membership.

Elections for positions on the board were conducted resulting in the addition of new board members Joe Millar from Pro Electric Inc. and Jamie Hunt from J.M.R. Electric Ltd. With great thanks and appreciation for many years of service, the membership recognized and thanked Dennis Preszcator and Brad Mead, who retired from the board, for their service.

Local 53 representatives based at the Chatham, Cambridge, and Mississauga Member Centres look forward to a busy year of collective agreement renewals and first collective agreements. Leading into the first months of 2025, the local’s membership continues to exceed previous annual records, now averaging nearly 2,000 members employed at 52 different construction workplaces across southwestern and central Ontario.
