Wednesday, August 8, 2018 Local Board Updates Local 6 Local 52 Local 53 Newsletters Construction Local 6 The Local 6 annual general meeting and golf tournament was a success, and the prizes from our sponsors only seem to get better. The local board did not receive any new candidates for board positions, and the current members graciously agreed to continue in their roles. In the fall, the board will begin the process of deciding if there are any opportunities to help out in the local community. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please pass them on to your Local 6 board member, steward, or representative. The Local 6 board meetings will resume in September. Local 52 The Local 52 board met on June 7 and welcomed its newest member, John Schenk. (Romag Contracting Ltd.) We appreciate his willingness to serve his fellow members. Local staff reported on new organizing, which includes employees at Penalta Group, Wallwin Voice and Data, Black Creek Mechanical, Hinton Scaffolding, Sierra Homes, and Tor-Crete Ltd. The board welcomes Colene Jansen and Rob Cleveland to the work of the local and wishes them much success in their work. The board meets next on September 13. Local 53 The Local 53 board held its 2018 annual meeting in London on June 19. Board members reviewed the activity and business of the local during 2017. Notably, the local grew in membership by nearly 14 percent over the previous year, with members at 40 workplaces throughout southwestern Ontario. Membership growth has been robust for the past decade, increasing by 230 percent since 2009. Election of board members was also held at the meeting. Returning are Harold Chordash (Graceview Enterprise) and Dennis Preszcator (J.M.R. Electric). We welcomed Brad Mead (Pro Electric) as a first-time member of the board. Well wishes and gratitude were expressed to retiring board member Ted Quenneville for his 13 years of service to the local and its membership.
