The renewed contract, effective from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2029, includes annual wage increases of three percent per year, along with increases to the pension fund, health fund, training fund, industry fund, and safety boot allowance. Other changes include improved travel pay provisions and an increased out-of-town per diem. The agreement also clarifies holiday provisions and expands immediate family definitions under the leave provisions. “This settlement provides continued progress for our members,” says Ben Hirst, representative. “It ensures fair compensation and supportive working conditions while sustaining the flexibility and stability that serve both employees and ICA employers well.” The Independent Contractors Association represents a group of three general contractors operating across southern Ontario: P. Demik Construction, G.S. Wark Limited, and Schilthuis Construction Inc. The companies’ employees have been represented by Local 6 for many decades.
