Thursday, February 18, 2021 Local 56 Hero Newsletters Alberta Local 56 Local 56 member Kevin Chang is a genuine hero. Kevin is a preboard screener working at the Calgary airport. On February 2, 2020, a passenger collapsed and hit her head on the roller tables in the screening area while repacking her bag. Kevin immediately sprang into action and performed CPR on the unresponsive passenger. A travelling anaesthesiologist assisted but Kevin remained on the scene and helped the doctor with the automated external defibrillator (AED). Two Garda managers also helped. Edin Kam called 911 and remained on the line until emergency responders arrived on the scene and Matin Khidri retrieved the AED. Within 10 minutes the passenger was no longer in cardiac arrest and was conscious and breathing. Kevin, Edin, and Matin were recognized for their efforts in saving a passenger’s life at a ceremony on February 25, 2020. Well done!
