Local 306 at the National Convention

Local 306 sent HSD head custodian Raymond Roy to Kitchener, Ontario, as a delegate for CLAC’s National Convention on October 26-27, 2017. Raymond presented a report of Local 306’s activities.

Local 306 had two resolutions presented, debated, and approved by the delegates of our national convention.

Funding for Support Services for Adults Living with Disabilities: In Manitoba, organizations providing services to adults living with disabilities are dependent on funding from the provincial government. The low level of funding limits employers from paying high-enough wages to their employees. CLAC represents day program employees at enVision, and this resolution calls on the province of Manitoba to increase funding for wages.

Health and Safety: This resolution calls on government to introduce mandatory yearly training for all employees working for an employer where a variance is in place allowing several work locations to report to one workplace safety and health committee. This education would focus on the right to refuse unsafe work and the proper procedures for doing so.
