Friday, February 16, 2018 Liftsafe Members Elevated by New Contract Local 53 Ratifications Construction Members at Liftsafe Engineering recently ratified a renewal collective agreement that provides seven percent wage increases over four years. Members came to meetings held in Cambridge, Chatham, and Oshawa on February 13 and 14, and voted 94 percent in favour of the new contract. The new agreement also offers an improved annual pension plan, with contributions reaching six percent of earnings, as well as basic dental coverage improved from 70 percent to 100 percent reimbursement. Also, the contract improves vision coverage to $250 per 24 months and increases a tool replacement allowance to $750 per year. Special adjustments of up to $2.50 were included for qualified crane and hoist technicians, which is a classification in high demand due to new CSA requirements. Liftsafe’s 42 employees are members of Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53 and have been represented by the union since 2006. This is their fourth collective agreement. With locations in Cambridge, Oshawa, and Windsor, Liftsafe builds, installs, and services overhead cranes and various other cranes and hoists throughout Ontario, and also engineers and installs custom material-handling lifting solutions.
