Monday, December 9, 2019 Know Your Rights! You have to right to union representation at a meeting with management Newsletters Sectors Healthcare Did you know that if you get called into a discussion with management and realize that the topic being discussed is you, you have the right to have a union steward present? You do! Simply tell your manager the following: “If this meeting is to have me explain my actions or could possibly lead me to being disciplined or having my job changed, I’m asking to have a union steward present with me. I’m willing to participate in this meeting when a union steward is present. Thank you for respecting due process.” Sometimes, it can be hard to get the words out when you’re in the middle of the situation. If you feel that you won’t be able to remember what to say during a potentially very stressful moment, write it down on a card and keep it in your wallet. Sometimes, you’ve already asked for a steward and been told that one is not available. Remember, you have to right to union representation at a meeting with management. Don’t be afraid to insist on it!
