Electric Employees Secure Strong Wage Gains and Other Improvements with New Contract Local 53 Ratifications Construction EXETER, ON—Over 400 Local 53 members employed by J.M.R. Electric Ltd., an electrical contractor based in Exeter, Ontario, ratified a three-year collective agreement providing them with strong wage gains and other improvements. Local 53 was certified by the Ontario Labour Relations Board in 2007 to represent J.M.R. Electric’s employees. The new agreement provides a total monetary increase of 13.5 percent over three years, including wage increases of $5.50 per hour (12 percent) and pension improvements of 1.25 percent. Members will also benefit from a higher boot allowance, improved travel provisions, and enhanced shift, foreperson, and lead-hand premiums that better recognize skill and leadership on the job. “This agreement delivers meaningful improvements that acknowledge the exceptional work our members do every day,” says James Koopman, representative. “Through respectful and constructive negotiations, we achieved a deal that strengthens compensation, enhances benefits, and supports the continued success of both our members and the company.” J.M.R.
