Sunday, September 5, 2021 Helping Wildfire Victims Locals Local 501 Newsletters BC Local 501 Imelda Naca, a cook with Simpe Q and proud Local 501 member for 12 years, attended a parish community conference and learned about a donation drive to assist those devastated by the wildfires in Lytton. She wanted to help and organized a collection of nonperishable items and slightly used household items for the fire victims. Imelda, who serves on the union’s bargaining committee, reached out to coworkers and friends to set up several drop sites, including at her workplace at Courtyard Terrace, to receive donations. “The wildfires destroyed most of the village,” she says. “I was inspired to help the people of Lytton as their community rebuilds after the fires.” The donated items were loaded onto trucks organized by The Knights of Columbus, who delivered them to Lytton on Saturday, August 14. Imelda Nacar and her fellow Local 501 members got together and gathered donations for the victims of the fires this past summer in BC’s interior.
