Wednesday, August 16, 2017 Helping Habitat for Humanity in Edmonton Locals Local 63 Newsletters On June 22, 2017, the Local 63 Board offered the construction expertise of its members to Habitat for Humanity on Edmonton’s Carter Work Project. The event was attended by Local 63 Board members Chris DeVuyst and Wayne Lodge, along with former CLAC Executive Director Dick Heinen, and representatives Edwin Dening, Matthew Guay, and Jon Heinen. Recent graduates from the Women Building Futures program, who finished their program in partnership with CLAC, strengthened this excellent volunteer crew. The day was filled with digging sump holes and hanging beams in the basements of a triplex. We finished the day by pouring a footing for a duplex. The local board was glad to be able to contribute to the community in this way and hopes this will become an annual event. We would eventually like to fill crews with Local 63 members from across Alberta at various Habitat for Humanity builds. Look for future announcements as the Local 63 Board looks forward to seeing more members use their skills in a fun and engaging way with the Habitat for Humanity program.
