Friday, December 8, 2017 Health and Safety Corner New Initiatives in Ontario Newsletters CLAC/PCA Health & Safety Labour-Management Committee Update Are you interested in promoting health and safety in the construction sector? Join our health and safety labour management committee! Our committee is part of the IHSA network of sector and trade committees that report directly to the Provincial Labour-Management Committee. Our committee meets five to six times per year and covers general construction topics including new legislation/regulations, policies, industry health and safety performance trends, and upcoming Ministry of Labour (MOL) initiatives. Best practices and challenges are shared among attendees and the MOL inspector who is assigned to the committee. The committee has two vacancies for labour-side committee members. If you are a CLAC member with health and safety experience and would like to join the committee, please email your expression of interest to cderaaf@clac.ca by January 31, 2018. Supervisor Due Diligence The CLAC/PCA Health and Safety Labour-Management Committee hosted Karen Fields of Crawford Chondon & Partners LLP on October 25 at the Mississauga Member Centre. Karen, a defence lawyer, provided her insights on supervisor due diligence. She reviewed the importance of well-trained supervisors and their legal obligations and due diligence requirements. She also provided a helpful checklist to assist in making sure due diligence is being established.
