Tuesday, March 1, 2016 Golfing for a Great Cause Local 53 Newsletters Construction A golf tournament? In February? This wasn’t a case of plaid-jacketed Canucks donning toques and snowshoes before hacking through snow drifts. The tournament was comfortably played indoors and hosted at the virtual golf simulation centre of On the Green in Tecumseh. Hosted by Local 53, golfers from southwestern Ontario gathered to battle for bragging rights and prizes. Eleven groups competed for top spots in a four-person scramble format on the famed Pebble Beach golf course. Once again, first place at 12 under par had to be settled between two groups by a tie-breaker single shot closest to the pin. Andy Sypkes dropped his wedge shot inside of two feet to win the event for his team. Other winners for longest drive, closest to the pin, and the putting contest also took home select prizes. The real winners of the event were the people assisted by the Downtown Missionfood bank of Windsor. Local 53 presented a cheque for $1,602 raised by the tournament to the organization in support of its programs. The event was made possible through the support of several area contractors. Thanks goes to Anchor Hydro, Empire Roofing, Lariviere Electric, JMR Electric, Masse Contracting, and Quinn Roofing for their generous support and contributions.
