Monday, February 26, 2024 Get to Know Your Representatives! Geoff Dueck Thiessen, Nnedi Agu, and Heidi Martens, your representatives, share a bit about what inspires and motivates them Newsletters Manitoba Local 306 Geoff I love learning about what makes people tick, and the more I learn, the more compassionate I find myself becoming. I’m especially interested in epigenetics, a new field of study which shows that our experiences impact how our genes work. In other words, our experiences change our biology! For example, trauma in our childhood does really change how our brains work as adults, and we can heal from that stuff. Nnedi Time flies when you’re part of an amazing community! It’s been one incredible year as your representative. It’s been a rollercoaster of growth, wins, and shared moments, and I’m grateful for every moment. Heidi (currently on leave) A wise person once told me, “When you say yes to one thing, you say no to another.” I have said yes to a few wonderful commitments in my life. To build personal capacity for these commitments while prioritizing mental health, I’ve had to evaluate my “inputs.” This has led me to nurturing a few specific habits (check out author James Clear) and removing “inputs” that were, overall, more detrimental than helpful. A few examples: YES – listening to podcasts, audiobooks, and new music. NO – social media on my phone, phone by the bedside.
