Friday, September 13, 2019 Garda Security Screening Employees in Calgary Ratify New Agreement First agreement with CLAC Local 56 Locals Local 56 Ratifications Over 750 Local 56 screening officers employed by Garda at the Calgary airport voted 71% in favour of an agreement, expiring March 31, 2022. It provides level 3.4 officers with a 9.3% wage increase over the term and an upfront $2,000 signing bonus for full-time members and $1,000 for part-time members. Improvements were also made to employer pension and benefits contributions, scheduling flexibility, provisions for breaks, and a special bonus to recognize bilingual employees. Garda employees previously had been represented by the Teamsters, but frustrated with the lack of representation, they left and joined CLAC in late 2018. Many thanks to Local 56 members Andres Acuna, Luther Dougherty, Sean McBrien, Shannon Olson, Zahran Shaukat, and Rehan Zafar for their hard work serving on the bargaining committee for this round of negotiations.
