Fournier Employees Overwhelmingly Ratify First Contract

Sudbury, ON—Local 52 members employed by general contractor L. Fournier et Fils Inc., based in based Val-d’Or, Quebec, overwhelmingly ratified their first collective agreement, with 88 percent voting in favour.

The three-year and three-month contract provides excellent wage rates, enrolment in an employer-paid CLAC benefits plan, enrolment in the CLAC Pension Plan with five percent employer contributions, eight percent vacation pay, and an increase to isolation pay from $4 to $5 per hour. The agreement also includes employer contributions to the union’s training fund, providing access for members to CLAC Training’s many safety and skills courses.

The 140 operators, labourers, mechanics, and drivers are working on Greenstone Gold Mine in Geraldton, Ontario, and in Hemlo, Ontario.

“This is the first contract for Fournier employees working in the Thunder Bay area,” says Matthew Walchuk, representative. “It represents a great beginning and received solid endorsement by the membership.”
