Tuesday, April 29, 2025 Forefront of Innovation For the past few years, Local 6 members employed by O’Connor Electric have been busy working on a 1.2 million-square-foot state-of-the-art automated logistics and distribution centre in East Gwillimbury, Ontario Guide Magazine Locals Local 6 Sectors Construction Work began in the summer of 2022 and is expected to be completed this year. During the course of construction, at its peak some 85 Local 6 members have showcased their skills while being at the forefront of innovation working on this technologically advanced project. The facility utilizes innovative technology to streamline operations, combining both the power of people and automation to increase efficiency in the way goods are picked, packed, and shipped. Once in operation, the distribution centre will handle some 131 million cases annually delivered from 200 shipping docks. The automated processes will improve accuracy and speed while reducing errors and minimizing delays in handling inventory. Based in Kitchener, Ontario, O’Connor Electric is a full-service electrical contractor serving the industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) construction sectors. It is one of the largest CLAC-signatory contractors in Ontario, employing over 400 Local 6 members at projects across the province.
