Sunday, October 2, 2022 Football in Finland Baylie Kennedy, a Local 301 member at Sylvan Lake Lodge since early 2020, was chosen as a member of Canada’s National Women’s Football Team, which played at the Women’s Nationals in Vantaa, Finland, from July 28 to August 8 Locals Local 301 Newsletters Alberta Local 56 Alberta Local 301 Baylie is a defensive back with the Edmonton Storm in the Western Women’s Canadian Football League. She has played football for various Sylvan Lake football teams since 2014. She played two seasons with the Bantam Lions and three seasons with the high school Lakers before joining the Edmonton Storm women’s tackle football team. She was the only one on the team to be selected for the national team. Baylie recently went to Ottawa to try out for the Women’s National Team and was thrilled when she heard that she had made the team. “I was excited to have been invited to take this journey,” she says. “To play with the best of the best elite female athletes from across the country was such a great experience.” The Canadian team finished fourth in the tournament, just missing out on the bronze medal to team host Finland, which scored a late field goal to win 19-17.
